Last week, I had the honor of spending time with a remarkable and inspiring group of individuals at the Decolonial Fashion Residency, organized by Fashionclash in Maastricht. This topic is very close to my heart and my slow fashion studio in Amsterdam.
We had two inspiring speakers: Sandra Niessen from the research collective Decoloniality and Fashion, and Zinzi de Brouwer from Studio Palha.
The week was filled with personal stories, backgrounds, and thoughtful discussions. We also worked hands-on with a special piece of cloth from the Linen Project.
Now back home, we are still processing the experiences from those days. The story continues as the cloth travels with the different makers who participated.
The impact on my work and others’ will reveal itself in time.
